- I have both NT workstation 3.51 and Win95 on the same machine (in fact on the
- same disk). If you look at the documentation for Win95 it tells you how to
- install both on the same disk. It means you have to leave your disk as a FAT
- disk. Basically you install Windows NT first and then boot up on the MS-DOS boot
- option to install Win95. After installing Win95 the MS-DOS boot then makes your
- machine boot for Win95 instead of DOS.
-
- Anyway, The MSVC 4.0 environment can be installed to run in both these operating
- systems. If you initially install MSVC for NT, you have to run the setup in 95
- also to make it work on Win95. But you install it in the same place, you don't
- need to install two separate copies. The second install merely installs the
- operating system specific files, DLLs and such in the system directory, etc..
-
- If this is too much and you want to actually choose an operating system I
- suggest you go for NT. Windows NT is a true multi-tasking, multi-user system
- which is very well designed and is very rhobust. Version 3.51 is very stable. I
- hardly ever use Window 95. From what I have seen of it, it is not as
- multi-tasking as Microsoft would like you to believe. This is my opinion, mind,
- I have nothing to back this up.
